The Collegiate Church of Sant’Antonio Abate

The ceiling is supported by Corinthian pillars, the bays have barrel vaults, while the cross is closed by a dome. Inside there are frescoes and paintings by local artists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including Antonio Felice Orelli, who in 1742 decorated the southern chapel of the transept. The side chapels are enriched with carved marble altars and works of art of great value.

The Bell Tower

The bell tower, built in the seventeenth century, was subsequently raised several times in the eighteenth century. Inside there are five electrified bells.

Pipe organ

On the wooden choir on the counter-façade is the pipe organ, built in 1872 by Adeodato Bossi-Urbani. The instrument has undergone several restorations, the last of which in 2016 by Ilic Colzani, which allowed the organ to recover its timbral potential. The organ retains a neoclassical case and has two keyboards of 61 notes each, a concave-radial pedalboard of 32 notes and 43 registers, with mixed mechanical and electric transmission.

Casorella Museum

The Casorella Museum is located near the Castle of Locarno, in via B. Rusca, and is housed in an elegant building of the sixteenth century. Originally built for the Lussy family, the building was enlarged by the Orelli dei Capitani (hence the name “Casa degli Orelli”) and later purchased by the Rusca family, who donated it to the Municipality.

The building incorporates parts of the walls of the ancient castle and has decorative elements ranging from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. Two seventeenth-century portals lead to the palace and the internal courtyard, where there is a façade with a small loggia decorated with stuccoes depicting hunting scenes and heraldic trophies. The ceiling of the loggia is also adorned with stuccoes, while a perspective fresco made by Caldelli from Brissago in 1787 enriches the space.

The hall of honour is embellished with stuccoes and a canvas on the ceiling by Giuseppe A. F. Orelli, dating back to 1773, depicting the Judgement of Paris. The pictorial decoration was renovated in the nineteenth century. In the room there is also a late-Renaissance stone fireplace from the 1600s, decorated with the coats of arms of the Rusca family.

The historic sixteenth-century residence in Casorella represents a cultural reference point for the City of Locarno, housing its prestigious art collections. The permanent exhibition offers visitors a journey through the most representative works, with a focus on the “Arp Galaxy” series. This collection includes reliefs, decoupage and sculptures by the Alsatian artist Jean Arp (1887-1966), who generously donated his creations to the city. Alongside Arp’s works, the collection includes works by other artists related to him, among which Sophie Taeuber-Arp stands out.
